Why GeoToad?
GeoToad is free software to help speed up the boring part of geocaching: choosing the cache and collecting the data.
It is the perfect tool for geocacher's (especially
premium subscribers) on the go!
Have you ever felt:
Tell Me More!
GeoToad lets you perform on-demand queries against the Geocaching website, and export the matching geocaches to numerous devices and over 20 file formats. You tell it what you want to see, such as: Geocaches that I have not found within 15 miles of 27513 with travelbugs.
or if you are a little more demanding, something like:
Geocaches in Texas
with a difficulty of 3 or higher that have never been found, match the keywoards river,
or stream, but not any caches owned by Elvis.
You can then take these query results with you on a nice long print-out,
import them into EasyGPS, transfer
them to your GPS unit, or even save the results onto your cellphone!
GeoToad supports Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and other UNIX flavors! >GeoToad News:
3.9.0 released!
11mar2006 08:30
3.8 never happened, but 3.9 promises to be worth it! We now support Geocaching.com logins, which also allows us to view premium caches if you are a GC.com premium member (you are, aren't you?). There is also support for a new "fun factor" rating system that uses Bayesian analysis to determine whether or not the geocache comments are overly positive or not. It's still pretty experimental, and isn't easily tuned yet. One of the nicest new features is that the text user interface now memorizes your settings. Due to the way that it is implemented, it requires Ruby 1.8 or higher (Windows or Mac OS X Tiger users need not worry). We hope you enjoy this new release as much as we enjoyed coding it! 3.8 being delayed
19nov2005 10:43
I've had a pretty busy schedule lately, and haven't had the chance to work on geotoad for the last month. I'm currently planning to have it done by December 1st. This release will be the first one that requires Ruby 1.8, which will simplify things with the new networking and configuration file code. Thank you for being patient! 3.8 Being Worked On

The Geocaching website now requires users to be logged-in in order to download geocache coordinates, which breaks old version of GeoToad (they will complain about being unable to parse the page). I have added basic support for logins to the upcoming 3.8 release, but have some polish and testing to do before it's released on October 19th. I had planned on making 3.8 the first release to support the "Enjoyment Index", which adds a 3rd rating to difficulty/terrain based on the latest Bayesian filtering technologies. You'll have to wait until 3.9 for this now, which I should have a beta available for by next week. 3.7.6 released
17jun2005 07:571
3.7.6 was finally released last night to add compatibility with some changes made to the geocaching.com website. This released was a bit half-assed because I'm in the middle of moving to Atlanta, and my subversion repository isn't up, and nor did I have a Windows machine to compile a Windows version for. It's all sorted out now, so please enjoy! Previously, we had a bunch of minor feature changes planned for 3.7.6, these will be released into 3.8.0, but I wouldn't expect it to come out until late summer |
